As we move rapidly through the first decade of the 21st century, we’re still taught a very traditional, employer-driven approach to managing our careers. From resumes, to networking, through the interview process, and even as we seek the next promotion, many of us fall victim to the tendency to mold ourselves into what “they” expect, to get what “they” have to give. Seeing your career as your own “business”, you begin to realize that you are your own product - your own brand, employers are your prospective clients, and that building mutual relationships throughout life can lead you closer to the employers who most want what you have to offer. With some simple shifts in perspective, you can add more of yourself to the traditional career management process to make it work best for you.
